THE most exciting Invitational Sevens Series to hit the planet
It all began with an idea

World Sports Safaris, Africa Centric Entertainment, 270 Degrees and Sevens Referee have come together to use their knowledge and experience of building and developing tournaments throughout Eastern Africa to bring the new pinnacle of Invitational Rugby to one of the most picturesque and engaging backdrops anywhere.
Gateway to East Africa
The Series
The Great Lakes Sevens is a series like no other. We are committed to developing rugby talent and opportunity in East Africa and also introducing some of the planet's most spectacular locations to National Squads, Elite and Open teams, allowing them to experience the amazing diversity of the world's second largest continent.
It all kicks off in 2026 in the magnificent city of Kigali.
Kigali
The Capital of Rwanda is one of the safest and cleanest cities in Africa. The city is a catalist for change and progress; tackling climate change is a key priority, single use plastics are banned and a new initiative aims to convert the 100,000 mopeds to electric power by 2030. Is you love walking or running, there are many routes for you to follow that offer exceptional views.
Amahoro Stadium
The newly refurbished Amahoro National Stadium is iconic within Rwanda, two fields, two running tracks, a national indoor arena. The host for the 2026 Great Lakes is probably the best venue anywhere in Africa.
Completed in 2024 the Amahoro Stadium is the largest in Rwanda with a capacity of 35,000. The state of the art facilities feature two full size pitches, advanced lighting and PA systems to create that 7s Vibe and completely new locker rooms.
It is also the first stadium in the region using environmental architecture and sustainable practices to reduce it's eco-impact.
